The Japanese hold a very old traditional baby keep-sake dear to their hearts in the form of ‘Aka-Chan Fude’ which is a writing brush made from the locks of a babys hair. This ancient tradition goes back for hundreds of years whereby creating this brush invokes the good fortune and blessings of happiness, health, intelligence and a prayer of everlasting and unchanging love to be visited upon your child. Essentially this brush is made from babys first hair cut – one that has never been touched by scissors before.
At Keisuke, our Japanese hairdressers are well accomplished in making this special hair cut for your young child where we carefully take the right amount of hair to give to our Japanese Artists in Japan. The hair is then processed and prepared by experienced Japanese artisans in the same traditional way that began centuries ago to make Aka-Chan Fude – the ultimate baby keep-sake gift. Once complete, your Aka-Chan Fude is then sent back to you in a hand crafted wooden box made from the wood of the Paulownia tree. This tree wood is the same solution for protecting Japanese Ceromonial dress that has lasted for centuries. The whole process to making your hand made baby brush usually takes around 8 weeks.
The Japanese style brush is still the most popular form for making your keepsake but we have other options available too. If you would like to see these unique gifts up close then ask in our salon where we have a large range of examples to look through.
